A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) was held at the HNS headquarters in Zagreb, during which, among other matters, a decision was made on the appointment of a new Secretary General of the Federation.
The Executive Committee accepted the resignation submitted by the current Secretary General, Tomislav Svetina, and, upon the proposal of President Marijan Kustić, appointed Dr. Josip Tomaško, the current Deputy Secretary General, as the Federation’s chief operating officer.
“The successes of the Croatian Football Federation are founded on the unity of all HNS stakeholders. As Secretary General, I do not wish to be a means through which that unity is undermined or the reputation of either myself or HNS is tarnished, and therefore I have decided to resign from the position of Secretary General of HNS. In the newly created atmosphere, significant pressure has been placed on the Federation, and for that reason I believe this move to be the most responsible one towards the Federation, President Kustić and my colleagues on the Executive Committee,” said the outgoing HNS Secretary General, Tomislav Svetina.
The Executive Committee appointed Dr. Josip Tomaško as Secretary General, who until now served as Deputy Secretary General and Head of Competitions at HNS. Since joining HNS in 2013, Tomaško has also held the positions of Secretary of youth national teams and Head of the International Relations Department. He earned his PhD at the Faculty of Kinesiology in Zagreb and, in 2021, completed UEFA’s prestigious “Diploma in Football Leadership and Management” programme as one of its top participants.
“I thank the Executive Committee, which has once again demonstrated unity in its work. I understand Mr. Svetina’s decision and thank him for the contribution he made to the Federation’s successes during his term as Secretary General. I am pleased that we are promoting Josip to the position of Secretary General, as he has proven himself through many years of work at HNS, during which he has become thoroughly familiar with virtually all segments of the Federation’s operations, particularly national teams, competitions and international relations, which is extremely important for the role of Secretary General. He is a highly educated, dedicated and diligent professional who enjoys our full confidence, and I congratulate him and wish him much success in his new position,” said HNS President Marijan Kustić.
The Executive Committee also adopted the competition regulations for the finals of the cadet and junior futsal competitions and made a decision regarding the completion of the First Cadet and Junior League for the 2026/27 competitive season. Furthermore, a decision was made on the leadership of youth futsal competitions at the level of the HNS regional centres. In addition, the Executive Committee confirmed amendments to the Statute of the HNS Football Academy.
