As part of the UEFA Grassroots Week 2025 celebrations, the Croatian Football Federation, in cooperation with local clubs and schools, organized a football festival at the NK Lokomotiva pitches in Zagreb.

Grassroots Week is an annual UEFA initiative, implemented together with national associations, to promote football as a game for everyone, highlighting the values of community, inclusion and the joy of participation.

The Zagreb festival gathered almost 350 participants – children from football and futsal clubs, a local school, as well as players from the Croatian FA’s Special Power League project, dedicated to children with developmental difficulties. The event featured 86 children from NK Lokomotiva, 94 from MNK Gimka Uspinjača, 34 from NK Podsljeme, 26 pupils from Kajzerica Elementary School and 100 participants from the Special Power League tournament, making a total of 340 children.

Berislav Pernar, head of NK Lokomotiva’s football school, underlined the importance of such events, emphasizing that football is a powerful tool to bring children together, regardless of their backgrounds or abilities, creating friendships and a positive atmosphere within the community.

The Croatian Football Federation continues to develop activities within its Grassroots program, aiming to involve as many children and young people in sport as possible, and to provide them with opportunities for healthy growth and shared enjoyment through football.
