On Thursday, UEFA Executive Committee voted Germany to host the 2024 European Championships.
At UEFA headquarters in Nyon, the host nation for the EURO 2024 was selected, with Germany and Turkey being the final two candidates.
Following the final presentations, UEFA Executive Committee members casted their votes, including the Croatian Football Federation president Davor Šuker.
UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin then announced:
"We have had two excellent candidates, two great football countries. Unfortunately, only one can host EURO 2024, and it will be - Germany. The procedure was transparent, the vote democratic, and the decision then must be the right one. I look forward to a brilliant tournament!"
German bid included ten ready-to-use stadiums in Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipziga, München, and Stuttgart, with emphasis on easy inter-city connections and quality accommodation, under the motto "united by football, in the heart of Europe".
West Germany hosted the EURO 1988, and Turkey was also bidding for the EURO 2008, 2012, and 2016 tournaments. The upcoming EURO 2020 will be hosted by 12 cities all over Europe, with the qualifying round scheduled for 2019.
